CUBE Entertainment Continues Facing Backlash Despite Revising Notice About (G)I-DLE

On June 17, CUBE Entertainment posted an announcement on Weverse, informing (G)I-DLE fans about a special recruitment.

The notice informed fans that the label would start recruiting offline fan supporters from June 17 until all the positions were filled. However, it didn’t disclose the exact number of positions. The responsibilities include on-site support of (G)I-DLE’s public broadcasts and fan club management.

The notice, however, omitted any mention of benefits or compensation that applicants could expect from the job, making it look like the label was asking fan club members to volunteer to manage public events for the girl group. This immediately sparked intense backlash from fans, who accused the label of exploiting fans for free labor.

The backlash eventually led CUBE Entertainment to withdraw the initial notice and reissue a new one, in which they mentioned that the benefits and special perks for fan supporters would be revealed to the successful applicants only. They also apologized for the previous notice, which caused “confusion” around supporter benefits.

The new notice, however, did little to curb the criticism from netizens. The fact that the benefits of this job were kept concealed didn’t sit well with many, and they felt that CUBE Entertainment was trying to bluff with fans with the new notice.

“Benefits are only for those who pass, LOL. They still don’t get it.”
“Why are they being so reckless when their only cash cow is (G)I-DLE?”
“LOL. Still didn’t say what exactly. What the hell, you idiots?”
“Don’t people need to know what the benefits are before deciding whether to apply or not?”
“What could be the benefits that they have to keep them a secret like this?”
“They won’t even tell you the benefits and just want you to apply first? LOL.”

“Aren’t the benefits usually like concert tickets and entrance to public broadcasts? Just reveal it. Why keep it a secret?”
