August 28, SM Entertainment issued the following statement:
"This is SM Entertainment.We have recently learned that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense.As we were assessing the facts related to the matter, we recognized the severity of the situation and determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After discussing with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the group.Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation. We will provide further statements as the investigation progresses.We deeply apologize for the concern and distress caused by our artist."
August 29, following SM Entertainment's announcement of Taeil's departure from NCT, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station revealed that the police booked Taeil after a report was filed in June for alleged sexual offense.
According to the police, Taeil is being investigated after being reported by legal adult woman "A".
Moon Tae-il, also known as Taeil debuted as a member of NCT, NCT U, and its most popular sub-unit, NCT 127, having been active with the group since their pre-debut training team in 2015. Beyond his work with NCT, he has also contributed to various Korean soundtracks — including those of Twenty-Five, Twenty-One, Missing Crown Prince, and Love To Hate You, among several others.
